More Effective and Efficient Sewer Collection Systems

چکیده
Regulatory requirements – Control of pollution in receiving waters is the main reason for regulation. Many jurisdictions are moving towards regulations prohibiting discharges of untreated sewage into water bodies, and this is a problem for many older systems that carry combined stormwater and sanitary sewage. Even the quality of urban stormwater is coming under scrutiny and limits are being imposed on suspended solids and “first flush” constituents.

Optimum Design of Sewer Collection Networks
Various methods have been used to economically design wastewater and stormwater collection systems. In this article, Discrete Differential Dynamic Programming (DDDP) which is a subsection of dynamic programming (DP) was used. For each pipe network, various alternatives such as depth and slope of pipe laying and various diameters could be considered to satisfy hydraulic and engineering constrain...

The ADRICOSM project was launched in October 2001, and ended in March 2005, with the main objective of demonstrating the feasibility of a near real time operational marine monitoring and forecasting system at the shelf and coastal scales, with connections to river basin runoff and coastal town sewer systems. The basic system consisted of an efficient network for the collection of marine data su...

TRC undertook a study in 2011 focusing on the township of Crows Nest as its flagship for assessing the existing infrastructure and the development of a future sewer system. The study was designed to identify whether a conventional gravity system would be a more cost-effective option than a pressure sewer system. Consideration of various conditions such as population densities, topographic const...
متن کاملNonlinear optimization for improving the operation of sewer systems: the Bogotá Case Study
Sewer systems are considered as complex large-scale systems that traditionally collect and transport stormwater and sanitary sewage out from urban areas. Each subsystem is in itself composed of a large number of elements with time-varying behavior, exhibiting several operating modes and subject to changes due to external conditions and operational constraints. Sewer systems are mainly operated ...
